CT and Angiography Services Restored
St. John XXIII Hospital Aber is pleased to announce the resumption of CT Scan services following the successful acquisition and commissioning of a new CT scan machine.
Our previous CT scanner was unfortunately damaged in May 2025, leading to a temporary interruption of CT imaging services. Recognizing the critical role of advanced diagnostics in patient care, hospital management prioritized the procurement of a new, modern CT scanner to ensure continuity, accuracy, and safety in diagnostic services.
Official Launch of the New CT Scanner
The new CT scan was officially launched on Monday, 5th January 2026, marking a major milestone in the hospital’s ongoing investment in advanced diagnostic services. This achievement reflects the dedication of the hospital leadership, staff, partners, and supporters who worked tirelessly to ensure that this essential service was restored.
With the new CT scanner now fully operational, patients can once again access timely, accurate, and high-quality diagnostic imaging without the need to travel long distances.
Enhanced CT Scan Services Available
With the new CT scanner now fully operational, the hospital offers a wide range of high-quality CT imaging services, including CT Angiography, further expanding our diagnostic capabilities.
CT Scan Services Offered
- Neck CT Scans: Detailed imaging of the neck to diagnose conditions affecting the thyroid gland, lymph nodes, and surrounding structures.
- Chest CT Scans: High-resolution imaging of the lungs, heart, and chest structures to assess infections, tumors, trauma, and vascular conditions.
- Abdomen CT Scans: Comprehensive evaluation of abdominal organs such as the liver, pancreas, kidneys, and intestines to detect abnormalities and disease.
- Pelvis CT scans: Assessment of pelvic organs including the bladder, reproductive organs, and rectum.
- Limb CT Scans: High-detail imaging of arms and legs to identify fractures, infections, tumors, and other musculoskeletal conditions.
- Spine CT Scans: Diagnosis of spinal conditions including disc herniations, fractures, degenerative disease, and spinal stenosis.
- Paranasal Sinuses (PNS) CT scans: Detailed imaging of the sinuses to diagnose sinusitis, chronic nasal conditions, and facial pain.
- CT Urograms: Specialized imaging of the urinary tract to detect kidney stones, tumors, obstructions, and other urinary system abnormalities.
- CT Angiography (CTA): Advanced imaging of blood vessels to assess arteries and veins, helping diagnose conditions such as aneurysms, blockages, vascular malformations, stroke-related conditions, and other cardiovascular disorders. This service supports rapid, accurate decision-making in both emergency and planned care.
This upgrade strengthens our role as a referral diagnostic center for northern and eastern Uganda, supporting both inpatient and outpatient care while improving clinical decision-making.
Operating Hours
We understand the importance of timely and convenient access to diagnostic services. Our CT Scan Unit operates during the following hours:
- Weekdays: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Weekends (Saturday only): 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Emergency cases are handled in coordination with the clinical team as required.
